X FACTOR'S Sharon Osbourne let slip the 'F word' LIVE on air as TWO of her three acts were eliminated in tonight's explosive X Factor quarter final.

A tense results show saw Sharon's blonde vocalist Grace Davies, who performed original song Hesitate, sent swiftly through yet come second best in the Prize Fund sing-off with last night's champion's, Rak-Su.

As host Dermot O'Leary revealed hunky Matt Linnen and Kevin Davy White, whose performance left mentor Nicole Scherzinger in floods of tears, would bag the final spots, red head Sharon was left stunned.

Perhaps forgetting the show was live and broadcast before the watershed, she blasted: "Oh f***," before covering her mouth with her hands as she stood with evicted acts Holly Tandy and Rai-Elle Williams.

Her blooper was clear for all to see as she soaked up the bad news.

Regaining her composure for a chat with Dermot, the Girls mentor praised both her acts and said: "They have both done so great.

"It has only been six weeks, not 10 like usual, so they are already ahead of the game.

"They are not going away."

Holly, who performed Ariana Grande classic love Me Harder on tonight's episode, took defeat very gracefully.

With tears in her eyes she praised their achievements and promised it would "not be the last of us."

Meanwhile Rai-Elle, who looked cute with her hair styled into bunches, was equally emotional at her exit after she impressed with Jean Knight hit Mr Big Stuff.

Yet it was controversial singer Grace - who had been accused of getting too big for her boots - who will now fly the flag for Sharon.

She belted out her self-penned track Hesitate twice in the 90-minute show, once to secure her spot next week and another to battle for an LA recording session and Louis Walsh's car in a sing off with Simon Cowell's four-piece band, Rak-Su.

In stark contrast to Sharon's fate in the shock double eviction, Overs judge Nicole Scherzinger saw BOTH her singers make it to next week's semi-final stage.

She let out a huge squeal of delight as she wrapped Matt - who Simon Cowell earlier jokingly branded unattractive - into her arms.

Kevin, who left Nicole weeping with his rendition of a Whitney Houston track, also got a cuddle.

The outcome means they will join Rak-Su, Lloyd Macey and Scottish group The Cutkelvins next weekend.

Meanwhile fans were quick to highlight Sharon's slip of the tongue during the show debrief on Twitter.

One posted an image of her red-faced moment and wrote: "Sharon Osbourne when she realised her live F-WORD slip had been heard loud and clear on live TV."
