Marcel Somerville brands Love Island co-stars Chris and Kem’s single ‘a novelty record’ in sly dig
The Blazin Squad star famously helped them write the track during their time on Love Island but didn’t get a writing credit on it
MARCEL Somerville has branded Chris Hughes and Kem Cetinay’s single a “novelty record”.
The Blazin’ Squad star made the sly dig at his former co-stars when quizzed about their track Little Bit Leave It, which reached number 1 in the iTunes chart.
He told “I’m happy for the boys and not jealous at all. I was asked to do the single but felt like it was a novelty record. I’m working on my own material which will be out next year.”
Chris and Kem released their song in October of this year, after creating the song in the Love Island villa alongside Marcel as part of a talent show task.
The trio - who were called Run KMC - worked together on the lyrics while Marcel also created the beat on a keyboard that was provided for them.
But when it came to releasing the track, Marcel was nowhere to be seen.

He later hinted he was owed writing credits on Little Bit Leave It, when he wrote: "Boys the tune sounds sick!!! I hope u did the right thing with the chorus & bars I wrote."
His girlfriend Gabby Allen has also branded it a “novelty track” in the past, saying: "They did so well from it [the song] and congrats to them. Marcel is a serious producer and he wants to focus on making an actual career out of music, so to do a novelty track would kind of bring him down."
Chris and Kem released the track off the back of their spin-off show, Chris and Kem: Straight Outta Love Island.
The stars were signed to Sony Records after debuting their song Little Bit Leave It at Ministry of Sound on the show.
It topped the iTunes chart after just three hours.
