James Willmott-Brown finally confesses to raping Kathy Beale – but EastEnders fans spot plot hole during twist
Ian Beale thought he’d caught JWB out on all his lies – however his smirk gave him away and viewers have been left reeling
EASTENDERS' evil James Willmott-Brown finally confessed to raping Kathy Beale tonight in a tense confrontation with Ian – before ensuring the evidence was destroyed.
As Ian arrived at James’s office he switched the voice note recorder on his phone and concealed it in his pocket.

James initially denied the rape and told Ian that he had consensual sex with his mum and that Kathy had later said it was rape because she felt guilty for cheating on her husband Pete.
JWB then went on to taunt Ian about his dead daughter Lucy, before finally cracking and admitting to his heinous crime.
He yelled: “You want the truth? Your mum taunted me. Played with me. Denied me. So I took it. I showed her. I did it. I raped her.”
However Ian couldn’t keep his poker face at all and broke out into a grin and headed toward the door, with a suspicious James immediately setting a lackey on him to grab his phone.

As Ian struggled and tried to get it back, James asked: “What did you think you were going to do with it? Those words?”
He then deleted the recording before warning Ian: “You come near me, or any of my family again… love to your mum.”

However viewers took to Twitter to point out how easily retrieved the voice note could be.
One wrote: “Everything's saved to the cloud now but ofc Wouldn't know that 😒”

Another added: “There’s a magic feature called recently deleted #eastenders”
A third said: “Pretty easy to recover that voice file, surely... #EastEnders”

While others offered links to websites which could get the recording back.
Many more labelled Ian a “plank” and a “flop” for falling at the final hurdle.
One said: “Ian will always be the biggest plank alongside Billy. #EastEnders”
