Bride-to-be Meghan Markle reveals she was pressured by agents to lie about her age to get better acting jobs
ROYAL bride-to-be Meghan Markle has said she was pressured to lie about her age to land better acting jobs.
She said agents wanted her to fib at auditions over fears she would be instantly rejected by producers once she passed the age of 30.
Speaking in 2015, Meghan said: “I think that as women actors, the industry can assume they have a shelf life.
“I’m always told, ‘Don’t say your age’. I’m 33 and I’m really comfortable with that. I think if anyone has a problem then it’s their problem, not mine.
“I think in television, you are seeing a shift of women who are not in their 20s who play strong women.”
Meghan, now 36, also revealed that a director once demanded she buy him cheesecake at an audition — highlighting how male movie bosses exert their power on young actors.
She said: “I had $20 in my bank account. There was this audition for this film and the director said, ‘You know I think you’re really something, but if you want to get the part you should bring me some cheesecake’.
“And I was like, ‘I’m sorry?’. So I spent my last money on this cheesecake and I didn’t get the part.
But, there are these power-hungry people that take advantage when you are young and impressionable and want it so badly.
Maybe he can send me some cheesecake now!”
Meghan co-star is suing for hurt knee
MEGHAN Markle’s Suits co-star Max Beesley is suing a production firm for £250,000 after hurting his knee on set, writes Tom Wells.
The 46-year-old British actor says the injury happened when he kicked down a fake wall on the set of Sky One drama series Jamestown.
The actor, who plays tough-guy Henry Sharrow, was meant to break into a burning building.
But he claims filmmakers Carnival Productions made the wall out of “heavy plywood” rather than softer balsa making it too “hard to kick in”.
He says he was left limping after it took him “seven or eight hard kicks” to break through.
Max played Stephen Huntley in Suits opposite Prince Harry’s fiancee.
