Dancing On Ice’s HUGE shake-up revealed as show introduces major changes for new rebooted series
DANCING on Ice returns to our screens next month – but with some major changes.
Fans of the show have been waiting for it to come back for four years, but when it does finally hit our screens on January 7, it will be a very different show.
While it was previously revealed that Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean will be changing roles – going from coaches to judges – and Diversity’s Ashley Banjo will also be joining the panel, some new details have come to light.
Katie Rawcliffe, Creative Director at ITV Studios told The Sun Online at the show’s launch at London’s National History Museum ice rink: “The professional skaters are choreographing all their own routines this time, and that’s the first time they have done it in the show’s history.”
The routines were all previously choreographed by Christopher, 59, but now each professional skater will create their performance for their celebrity each week.
The show also has a new home, with Katie explaining: “We have dubbed [it] ‘the ice city’, and it will join the training rink and the show rink together.
“They will both feature in the live show this time around.”
Host Phillip Schofield, who will return to present Dancing on Ice alongside Holly Willoughby once again, also spoke about the changes that have been made to the set.
These include new, big screens which will carry the same projections as those on the ice as the couples perform.
The 55-year-old said: “Someone who is not actually one of the crew had a sneaky look yesterday and said it is utterly awesome and jaw-dropping, so we think our set is going to be the best it’s ever been.
“This isn’t as relaunch of the show this is an entire reboot, from the bottom right up to the top.”
This also includes a change in the format of the show, with a show insider revealing it’s looking extremely likely that the separate 30 minute results show will be dropped.
Instead, the skate off will take place as at the end of the main show, to make it more accommodating to families with young children.
Dancing on Ice returns to ITV on Sunday, January 7 2018.
