BACK in August 2017, fans were horrified to discover that Home and Away's season finale would involve a fatal car crash that would kill off long standing character Kat Chapman.
The dramatic scenes are made more emotional by the fact Kat was heavily pregnant with Ash’s unborn child - so what does this mean for her ex, and her current boyfriend Robbo?
What happened to Kat and Robbo in the season finale?
Spoilers for the Australian soap revealed that a heavily pregnant Kat went to free her bad boy lover Robbo from his jail cell, saying she doesn’t have a life without him.
Tense scenes followed, as Ash discovered the pair when they were making their escape - and he demanded that Robbo be caged again.
However, Kat was insistent she escaped with her boyfriend, and Robbo got violent, punching Ash in the face before the couple made a swift exit.
Driving away from the town, the loved up pair were hopeful they could “live the life they talked about” - but when Kat was momentarily distracted by Robbo’s hand on her thigh, heartbreaking scenes showed an oncoming car smashing into their vehicle.
While Robbo regained consciousness, Kat’s injuries were fatal, and emotional scenes saw viewers watching a distraught Ash identify the bodies of both Kat and his baby son.
What happened at the funeral and why are the River Boys back?
A 13 hour shoot for the season finale scenes took place in 2017, followed by a funeral for Kat - which saw Summer Bay turn out in their masses to say goodbye to the policewoman.
George Mason, who plays Ash, was pictured carrying a small casket, representing his unborn son.
Ash gathered an army of River Boys to track down Robbo, so justice could be served.
To Ash, Robbo is a dead man walking - and viewers are left awaiting the final showdown between the pair.

Who is Sam Frost, actress playing Jasmine Delany who killed off Kat?
Sam Frost was born 4 April 1989 and is an Australian television and radio personality.
She is best known for winning the 2014 season of The Bachelor Australia, and went on to appear in The Bachelorette Australia.
Between November 2015 and January 2017, she co-hosted the 2Day FM breakfast show Rove &; Sam with Rove McManus, but after they got poor ratings they moved to a nightly show on the Hit Network.
Unfortunately, in June 2017, the show was axed, and her next appearance was on Hell’s Kitchen Australia.
Her current venture is on Home and Away, where she plays new character Jasmine Delaney. In Australia, she made her debut on 18 December 2017, and UK fans see her on screen from March 2018.
