Ed Sheeran celebrates getting the Christmas number one with his Beyonce duet Perfect

ED SHEERAN is officially Christmas Number One with his romantic duet, Perfect, featuring Beyonce.

The 27-year-old pop sensation beat out a number of stars fighting for the top spot, but ending his year-long high, reigned supreme alongside Queen Bey.

To add even more glitter to the festive victory, the track has also been certified double platinum - achieving 1.23million UK sales and streamed since it was first released.

Speaking about his win, Ed said: “Thank you very much for making Perfect Christmas Number 1. This is an actual dream come true and I’m very proud and happy.

"Thank you so much and have a very Merry Christmas, happy holidays and a Happy New Year.”

In a UK first, Ed also appears in at Number 2 on the Christmas charts -featuring in track River by Eminem.

Wham! classic, Last Christmas, came in at number three after a fan campaign to get the song to number one was backed by Andrew Ridgely.

The track, which is the highest selling record to never make it to number one, was pipped to the post when it was first released in 1984 by Live Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas.

Fans wanted the track to finally reach the coveted top spot to mark the one-year anniversary of the death of George Michael.

It appears that the UK is well and truly getting into the Christmas spirit this year - as fifteen festive tracks have made their way into the top 40.

This includes Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You, which came in at number four and The Pogues' Fairytale of New York, which came in at 7.

Elton John's Step Into Christmas also achieved a new personal best of reaching number 18.
