The 20-year-old actress has secured her future on the show for at least 2018 after being widely praised for her portrayal of the abuse victim, Bethany Platt
CORONATION Street star Lucy Fallon has something to celebrate today after having her contract for the soap extended for another year.
The actress has been widely praised across 2017 for her work as Bethany Platt – who was caught up in a sick sex ring grooming storyline that ran for months.
After the tackling of difficult scenes, which included her being raped by multiple men, Lucy finally got justice as the men behind the attacks – led by her “boyfriend” Nathan Curtis, were left to rot behind bars.
Speaking to , Lucy revealed: “It was a no brainer. I still feel so lucky to have been given such an important story to tell and Bethany’s journey is far from over.
“There’s a lot coming up next year and honestly I couldn’t be happier.”
The schoolgirl, played by Lucy Fallon, 22, left the show in October in order to escape Weatherfield.
In real life, Lucy was enjoying some much needed time off and was awarded the Best Actress gong at the British Soap Awards, alongside a string of other accolades.
On screen, Bethany returned to Italy for an elongated holiday as she struggled to cope with her memories of her ordeal from vile Nathan Curtis and the sex gang.
While keeping tight-lipped about what lies in store for Bethany, the character on screen has now taken up the job of a lap dancer in order to get control of her body back.
Having defeated her abuser Nathan, she will soon help lead a campaign of strippers against their abusers after one of her pals gets groped.
A show source told the Sun's Bizarre column: “Bosses wanted to show a different side to Bethany's story. She has been through a lot and this will show an empowered side to her.
"It's her overcoming what she was put through and take back the control over those men who have been awful to her previously.
"She is going to kick off royally and then try and lead a revolt at the strip club until things are sorted."
