Mariah Carey stops New Year’s Eve show to demand ‘hot tea’ as she wows the crowds in New York with an incredible performance
It comes after the 47-year-old stormed off stage during last year's show after a number of glitches during her set
MARIAH Carey paused her New Year’s Eve performance in New York to demand some “hot tea” as she wowed the crowds in New York with an incredible performance.
The singer made a triumphant return to Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve concert following last year’s disastrous performance that saw her have a meltdown on stage before storming off.
Last night’s show didn’t disappoint with Mariah wowing the crowds but her set wouldn’t be complete without a few diva moments.
Halfway through her show in Times Square, the 47-year-old stopped to ask for some “hot tea” to be brought on stage.
“Happy New Year!” she told the crowds before adding: “They told me there would be tea…”
No tea was brought on stage for the Fantasy hitmaker but it didn’t stop her from continuing with her knockout performance.
She added: “Oh! It’s a disaster! OK, well we’ll just have to rough it. I’ll just be like everybody else with no hot tea!”
“We’re going to try to do this right for you because I just want to show my appreciation for everyone that speaks out for justice and tries to make the world a better place.”
Mariah then belted out her iconic track Hero to the delight of the crowd.
After the show, Mariah saw the funny side and posted a snap of her posing with a warm brew and wrote: “Found my tea! ☕”.
Her fans rushed to Twitter to congratulate her on her performance and also poke fun at her “hot tea” moment.
One wrote: “‘they told me i’d have hot tea’ famous last words of 2017- Mariah Carey 😂”.
Another said: “‘I was told there would be tea,’ -@MariahCarey at #RockinEve…I’m using that line every time I’m disappointed in 2018.”
A third added: “If Mariah Carey can make it through that performance without her hot tea, then I can make it through another year”.
Last year’s show ended in disaster when the track for her 1991 hit Emotions malfunctioned during her performance.
She then appeared to have trouble with her monitors before she was hit by the major glitch.
Mariah told the audience: “I’m trying to be a good sport here.
“We didn’t have a check for this song… we’re missing some of the vocals, but it is what it is. I’m just going to let the audience sing. We didn’t have a sound check for this New Year’s baby, it is what it is…Get these monitors on please.”
She went on to add: “I wanted a holiday too, can’t I just have one.”
Mariah appeared to be hearing a different track through her ear pieces as she performed We Belong Together, and at the end of the song, she declared: “Bring the feathers, it just don’t get any better,” before walking off stage.
