EASTENDERS fans fear Mick Carter has been shot dead in a New Year's Day cliffhanger.
The Queen Vic landlord took part in a heist organised by Aidan Maguire alongside fellow Walford residents Phil Mitchell, Vincent Hubbard and Keanu Taylor.
But after the van they were targeting pulled into a dead end near The Arches, the plan went awry.
As the gang pointed their fake guns at the driver, he ordered the two men in the back to open the doors and put down their guns.
Standing at the back of the van, Mick and Keanu braced themselves for when the door opened but Mick - played by Danny Dyer - got the shock of his life when he recognised one of the men.
"It's you" he said as they pointed guns at each other, but before any more could be said, a gunshot sound rang out around the Square and Mick appeared to fall back.
While the camera didn't pan down to see who had fallen, Mick's wife Linda and mum Shirley had witnessed the confrontation, having raced to try and stop Mick getting involved.
As the shot rang out, Linda screamed and howled out loud as Shirley held her, her own face twisted in horror, leaving many fans believing it was Mick who took the bullet.
Within seconds of the show's famous 'duff duff's' kicking in, they had taken to Twitter in their droves to share their despair at being left on such a crucial cliffhanger.
One wrote: "OMG. NOT MICKKK" while another added: "Omg Mick got shot @bbceastenders #eastenders."
A third thought the same thing, writing: "Omg who shot Mick??" while another simply wrote: "NOOOOOO WHAT THE HELL NO #eastenders."
The day didn't get off to the best start, with Mick getting locked in the cellar by mum Shirley after she figured out what was about to happen.
But the quick thinking landlord managed to figure out a way to escape and get to his mark in time.
But has he paid the ultimate price?
