Celebrity Big Brother’s India Willoughby hasn’t spoken to her son, 19, in five months after he struggled with her transition
Writer has already revealed a crushing personal secret on the show
INDIA Willoughby has opened up and revealed a heartbreaking secret on this year's Celebrity Big Brother.
The journalist, 51, told her other female housemates that she hasn't spoken to her son Rhodes, 19, for over four months due to a rift over her sex change.
India, who was born Jonathan, entered the currently all female CBB house on Tuesday alongside ex-Corrie star Amanda Barrie, Made in Chelsea’s Ashley James and Boris Johnson’s sister, Rachel.
But India is hoping that her stint on the popular C5 show will lead to a reunion with her and Rhodes.
She said: “I’m looking forward to week three when you get a letter or a visit from the outside. That would be very moving in my situation.”
India's transitioning has proved a difficult time for both her and her family.
After her marriage broke down in 2001 she admitted to feeling suicidal when she quit her job in 2010, after 10 years of presenting the news in Carlisle, Cumbria.
Five years later she returned to TV as India, having transitioned to female.
Talking to about that time she said: "I was nice and smart in my suit but I knew I couldn’t go on because that person wasn’t me."
"I went home in tears, absolutely distraught. I bought myself a bottle of wine and drank it."
"At the end of that night I thought I was going to do myself in. I thought I would rather have a clean death to keep my secret a secret."
"Fortunately for me I’m a terrible drinker and I fell asleep, which in a way might have saved my life."
And India has been fairly forth-coming about her desire to find love in the CBB house, as finding love outside of the house has had it's complications.
“In normal life, outside the house, I can go out and guys will just chat me up and guys treat me as they find me," she said.
“If they Google me or someone tells them about my past, their attitude can change. It leaves women like me in love limbo."
