Golden Globes blunder leaves viewers outraged as cameras cut to Dame Helen Mirren instead of Dame Judi Dench
GOLDEN Globes viewers weren’t impressed when bosses appeared to confuse Dame Helen Mirren and Dame Judi Dench during the ceremony.
The mishap occurred when their names were read out as they went head-to-head for the Best Actress in a Motion Picture gong.
Judi was not at the star-studded event in Los Angeles when the mistake occurred.
Viewers noticed that when Chris Hemsworth called out Judi's name the camera panned onto Helen.
The camera then stayed on Helen as her name was read out immediately afterwards, but some claimed the blunder was unforgivable.
One tweeted: “Seriously? Did you focus on Helen Mirren instead of Judi Dench?”
A second tweeted: “Just FYI: Judi Dench and Helen Mirren are two different people. And they're two phenomenal, distinguished actors. That was quite a fail.”
Another commented: “Did the Golden Globes just cut to Dame Helen Mirren when Dame Judi Dench was nominated. Yes, they did. They made it into a Tracy Ullman sketch.”
A fourth asked: “Did they just pan to Helen Mirren thinking she was Judi Dench?”
Saoirse Ronan walked away with the award for her role in Ladybird.
Tonight’s star-studded ceremony saw some of the biggest stars make a silent statement against sexual harassment in the wake of the scandal centred around movie mogul Harvey Weinstein.
Joining the men in their all-black tuxedos, this evening’s leading ladies stood in unity by wearing all-black outfits in a silent show of support for the “Me Too” movement and the “Time’s Up” campaign.
