Marcel Sommerville ‘on a break’ from Blazin’ Squad as fans feared he’d quit after band perform without him

MARCEL Somerville has revealed that he’s “on a break” from Blazin’ Squad after fans feared he’d quit the band.

The Love Islander didn’t perform with the rest of the lads in Portsmouth last night and isn’t on the current posters leaving many worrying he was no longer part of the chart topping act.

However Marcel has told The Sun Online that he’ll never quit the Squad.

He said: “No you can never leave the Blazin’ Squad.

“I’m just taking a sabbatical as I’m so busy with other work at the moment, so the other boys are doing the shows.

“I will be on stage with the boys at some point once my time has been freed up a bit.”

Marcel's brags about the squad kept Love Island viewers amused over the summer - and did wonders to raise the group's profile, boosting their online music streams by a whopping 2,500 per cent.

The group found fame back in 2002 with their song Crossroads and had seven Top 10 hits before going on hiatus.

The band reformed and performed shows at the end of November

And as Marcel keeps his foot firmly in the pop door, he’s recently weighed in on his fellow Islanders’ Chris Hughes and Kem Cetinay’s short-lived music career.

He told The Daily Star on Sunday: “I’m happy for the boys and not jealous at all. I was asked to do the single but felt like it was a novelty record. I’m working on my own material which will be out next year.”

Chris and Kem released their song in October of this year, after creating the song in the Love Island villa alongside Marcel as part of a talent show task.

The trio - who were called Run KMC - worked together on the lyrics while Marcel also created the beat on a keyboard that was provided for them.

But when it came to releasing the track, Marcel was nowhere to be seen.

He later hinted he was owed writing credits on Little Bit Leave It, when he wrote: "Boys the tune sounds sick!!! I hope u did the right thing with the chorus & bars I wrote."

His girlfriend Gabby Allen has also branded it a “novelty track” in the past, saying: "They did so well from it [the song] and congrats to them. Marcel is a serious producer and he wants to focus on making an actual career out of music, so to do a novelty track would kind of bring him down."
