Gal Gadot, Nicole Kidman and Elisabeth Moss win big as women rule at Critics’ Choice Awards in pale gowns after Golden Globes protest
Evening was dominated by women but saw British actors Ewan McGregor and Gary Oldman also scoop gongs
NICOLE Kidman, Elisabeth Moss and Gal Gadot led the charge during the Critics’ Choice Awards as female stars used the winners’ podium to make emotional statements about the Hollywood sex scandal.
It was a good night for British talent too, with Gary Oldman bagging Best Actor for his role in Darkest Hour and Ewan McGregor walking away with an accolade for his part in Fargo during the star-studded ceremony.
After the all-black gown protest at the Golden Globes on Monday, Hollywood’s elite shunned their dark clothes for bright whites at the ceremony in Santa Monica.
While Diane Kruger followed suit, her style choice saw her head straight to the top of the worst dressed lists alongside Jessica Biel and Margot Robbie – who bagged the Best Actress gong for I, Tonya.
Actress Olivia Munn made her hosting debut at the event and kicked off the show with a Toast To The Good Guys segment with Niecy Nash.
Raising their glasses, the pair praised men who “asked me to meet them at a hotel conference room instead of their hotel room.”
Nicey went on to thank “all the men for speaking up at the Golden Globes,” to which Olivia then added: “They didn’t actually say much there…”
Their hilarious skit set the tone for the evening, which saw Handmaids Tale star Elisabeth walk away with three gongs.
Gal Gadot, who won the #SeeHer award, was praised by viewers for the statement she made on stage.
The 32-year-old Wonder Woman actress said: “I want to share this award with all the women and men who stand for what’s right, standing for those who can’t stand or speak for themselves.
“And I promise, my commitment to all of you is that I will never be silenced. And we will continue to band together to make strides uniting for equality.”
Nicole Kidman, who won Best Actress for her role in Big Little Lies, used her time on the podium to make up for “snubbing” her two adopted children during the Golden Globes on Monday.
She thanked “all her children” on stage, as the hit TV show wiped the board.
James Franco was a no-show at the ceremony, despite winning Best Actor for his part in The Disaster Artist.
