PRINCE William sports a dramatic new hairstyle after forking out £180 on a No1 buzz cut.
The 35-year-old heir to the throne took the plunge after seeking advice from wife Kate Middleton’s long-time hairdresser Richard Ward.
But one shocked barber said: “I’d have done it for a tenner.”
Wills acted after brother Harry teased him about going bald.
He unveiled his new style while meeting patients at Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
It is believed Ward’s deputy Joey Wheeler oversaw the do in a private Kensington Palace session.
He uses the “scissor over comb” freehand technique which results in a softer finish, making it less severe than clippers.
A source close to the hairdressers said: “Wills sought Richard’s advice, but it was Joey who was the one to visit the Palace and give him his new buzz cut.
The Prince got sick of being teased by Harry about going bald and this seemed like a practical solution — and one that should stop all the digs too.”
Joey, from Sussex, is senior stylist at Ward’s salon, where he has worked 11 years. He has also worked on fashion shoots.
Prince Harry, 33, has poked fun in public at William’s receding hairline — once quipping: “I think he definitely is brainier than I am, but we established that at school, along with his baldness.”
Unveiling newborn son George in 2013, William joked that the tot had “way more hair than me, thank God”!
Celebrity hairdresser Adee Phelan gave Wills’ new cut an enthusiastic thumbs-up.
He said: “William looks amazing — a million times better. When you’re going bald you have two options. A skinhead transplant known as scalp micro pigmentation so it’s less apparent you’re going bald. Or you just lump it off.
I'D DO IT FOR £10
BARBER Antony Kent said the Prince could have got the same cut for far less at his salon.
Antony who runs Kent’s Hairdressers in Birmingham, said: “That price has no relation to the actual cost — if Wills came in here he’d get the same cut for just over a tenner.
“I guess it’s the price of privacy. He’s paying for them to be discreet.”
“He’s now owning the baldness.
"He should grow some stubble like Harry. It might not be allowed in his role but it would make a real difference.”
A source close to William said: “Any cash spent on a haircut is private money.”
