Coronation Street’s Lucy Fallon reveals Bethany’s romance with Craig Tinker won’t have a happy ending
CORONATION Street's Lucy Fallon has revealed Bethany Platt's romance with Craig Tinker won't have a happy ending.
Lucy was speaking exclusively to The Sun Online after winning the award for Best Serial Drama Performance at the National Television Awards on Tuesday night.
Bethany is still recovering from her grooming ordeal and has taken a job as a lap dancer - which she is going to lose in a shocking new storyline - as she deals with what happened to her.
Lucy told us: "Bethany is on a really long road to recovery. It would be awful if the writers made it look like she was suddenly fine.
"And all of the charities and people we've spoken to, this is right; she needs to take back what people took in her.
"She's trying to get back control."
Last week, viewers were shocked when Craig dumped Bethany over her new job and Lucy says it's not looking good for the couple.
She said: "I think Bethany and Craig will work it out but whether it will last is up for debate. Craig isn't on the same journey as Bethany.
"He wants to settle down and have girlfriend and Bethany isn't ready for that.
"She's a lapdancer now – it's all a bit awkward! Obviously it's a very long road to recovery for Bethany and I just think it's gonna be quite a while before we see any actual happy storylines from her."
Earlier this month, Bethany had her mum Sarah's cheating ex Gary Windass beaten up and Lucy says she loved the storyline.
She explained: "I don't forgive Gary so far! He's cheated on Sarah! Who the f*** is f***ing Gary?!
"I read comments yesterday saying Bethany had become a horrible character after she let him get beat up. But I was like,' bitch, if that was my boyfriend!' Bethany is standing up for all those women.
"She wants to empower them! Sarah needs some of Bethany's backbone! Even Tina [O'Brien] is like, 'What am I doing? I need some Bethany's encouragement'."

"It's all amazing people and I get amazing storylines! I'd be mad to leave!"
