THIS shocking footage shows the moment Tom Cruise broke his ankle after smashing into building while filming a Mission Impossible stunt.

The Hollywood actor appeared on the Graham Norton Show last night where he shared a slo-mo version of the nasty accident, which halted filming of the franchise's sixth film.

The scene shows Cruise, 55, running from one building in London and leaping across to another where he doesn't quite make it and desperately scrambles up onto the roof.

He explains to the audience that this was the stunt and all had gone to plan - but in the jump he had crashed into the wall with his foot at an awkward angle, causing the break.

Cruise, who is known for performing his own stunt, says: "I'm wearing two wires, they're just safety wires because I go to full tilt and I'm sprinting as hard as I can and I hit the side of the wall.

"That's the stunt. I hit the side of the wall... and then I climb up on the wall and I'm supposed to run back."

Tom Cruise injures himself while filming a stunt for his latest Mission Impossible blockbuster

The stunt, filmed last year, is first shown from behind and a slight distance, with the injury not that clear but then the audience is shown another clip where the camera is at the side.

The moment of impact is more obvious, but then another clip is played which is slowed down and zooming in on the actor's foot.

Norton warns the audience: "If you are squeamish, don't watch this... a bone doesn't pop out or anything but it is an odd angle for anyone's foot to be at."

The crowd can be heard gasping as Cruise's ankle bends the wrong way.

Another camera, filming from the building he was running towards shows the moment he scrambles over the ledge and hobbles away as he tries to finish filming the scene.

Norton says: "Here is why Tom Cruise gets paid the big bucks. This is it from the front angle, you've just seen what's happened to the foot. Anyone else would go, now that's over. But up he gets and he's running."

Cruise adds: "I didn't want to do it again. I knew instantly it was broken and just got up and carried on with the take.

"I said, 'It's broken, that's a wrap, take me to hospital', and then everyone got on the phone and made their vacation arrangements."

Tom went on to explain that not only is his ankle still broken, but he’s also still filming the film’s stunts.

He said: “It’s still broken but I’m doing well.

“It’s not fully healed but we are shooting and we have a release date so I just have to keep going. I spent 8-10 hours a day, seven days a week in rehab because we still have some major stunts to do.”
