Dancing On Ice’s Cheryl Baker admits the money on the show ‘isn’t great’ and she only signed up to help pay her mortgage

MUSIC icon Cheryl Baker has said contestants On Dancing on Ice are ‘poorly paid’.

She is currently competing on the ITV1 show, which pays between £20k and £100k to secure celebrity names.

Former Bucks Fizz singer Cheryl, 63, told the : “The money is not great in my opinion.

“I’ve been training six days a week since October. If you make it to the final it’s a six-month project, so the money isn’t much in comparison.

“In this industry you can go months at a time without a job though. You can’t turn the work down. I have to work. I have a mortgage and bills to pay.

“I’m not a saver, I never have been.”

Although the contents of the star’s pay packets have been kept under wraps, it’s believed their salaries range from £20k to £100k.

It comes in stark contrast to ITV1’s I’m A Celebrity who paid Amir Khan a rumoured £400k to take part last year, Celebrity Big Brother who have paid several stars more than £500K for a four-week stint.

Cheryl also revealed that she has moved her pro skater partner Dan Whiston into her family home which she shares with husband Steve Stroud.

Cheryl told OK! magazine: “It gives us more time to practice off the ice. It’s great. I absolutely adore him.”

She also opened up about how the show is taking all of her courage, as she is “terrified of damaging her spine” and aggravating an old injury from when she was in a collision whilst touring with Bucks Fizz in 1984.

She was thrown through the windscreen of their tour bus and broke three vertebrae in her spine.

She says: “He is kind and he understands about my fear. I don’t respond well to being told off. If I had a strict coach I’d have quit before now.”
