James, 39, went first and joked about her past relationship with Taken actor Liam Neeson, before saying she was a "royal pain in my ass".

He also made jibes about her not being Dame Judi Dench or like Meryl Streep, but Helen, 72, gave as good as she got.

Getting the show's band to drop her a beat, she rapped: "You thought you could beat me, I'm sorry game over.

"I've cooked this beef his wife and her lover."

Resting a hand on her hip she continued: "He's obsessed with my exes - I'm sorry James I'm not single -  but you know I taught your little mister to tingle."

She then lifted her little pinky finger and wiggled it with a sly look on her face as James' mouth fell open in shock.

The crowd loved the shade she threw at him as he stood agape before he joked: "You said that was strictly between us".

She replied: "The truth will out."

James Corden 'punched in the face' as he moves Carpool Karaoke to New York subway during 2018 Grammys

After going another couple of rounds at each other, the crowd announced Helen the victor and James dutifully got down on his knees and bowed at her feet as she celebrated.

The moment came just a couple of days after James' second successful stint as host of the Grammy Awards.

The cheeky star added a few skits into proceedings, with one of the standouts being him getting punched in the face while doing a Subway version of Carpool Karaoke alongside Sting and Shaggy.
