Who’s in the Hold The Sunset cast? John Cleese, Alison Steadman, Peter Egan, Anne Reid, Rosie Cavaliero and Jason Watkins
MONTY Python legend John Cleese is back with its final episode of season two on our TV screens TONIGHT.
But who else has joined him in the star-studded cast? Here’s all you need to know…
Who is in the cast for Hold The Sunset?
John Cleese – Phil
He takes on the role of Phil, who – after years of her saying no – finally gets widow Edith (Alison Steadman) to accept his marriage proposal.
But their plans to get wed and move abroad to the sunshine are scuppered when Edith’s 50-year-old son, Roger, turns up at her door and announces that he’s left his wife, his kids and his good job at the bank, and come home in an attempt to find his lost happiness again.
John Cleese is best known for his comedy work in both Monty Python and Fawlty Towers.
His big screen credits include the James Bond franchise, Charlies Angels: Full Throttle and Shrek.
Alison Steadman – Edith
Alison takes on the lead role of widowed Edith, who becomes engaged to her longtime friend Phil, after refusing his attempts at proposing for many years.
Alison Steadman has worked across stage and screen for the past 50 years.
Her screen credits include Shirley Valentine, Confetti, and Gavin & Stacey.
Peter Egan – Mr Dugdale
Veteran actor Peter Egan has starred in productions such as Bean, 2001: A Space Travesty, Death at a Funeral and Downton Abbey.
Hold The Sunset sees him take on the role of interfering local resident Mr Dugdale.
Jason Watkins – Roger
Roger is Edith’s son who becomes fed up with hectic family life, so leaves his wife and kids to move back home, with his doting mother.
Jason Watkins describes the character as “so selfish.” The actor has previously starred in W1A, Trollied, and the 2016 reboot of Are You Being Served.
Rosie Cavaliero – Wendy
Rosie has starred in Peep Show, Green Wing and Nativity.
Hold The Sunset sees her take on the role of Roger’s long-suffering wife Wendy.
Wendy is “convinced that Roger was far too spoiled as a child.”
Anne Reid – Queenie
Queenie is described as being an interfering housekeeper who is wild at heart and reluctant to age.
Anne has also starred in Coronation Street and Dinnerladies.
Speaking of her character, she said: “The last time I played such an extreme character was on Shameless when I was a drunken old lady with too much make up… This is such good fun!”
What have Alison and John said about working together again?
John and Alison are no strangers to working with each other – having teamed up for the 1986 comedy film Clockwise, where Cleese played an uptight school headmaster obsessed with punctuality.
John said: “These are the most enjoyable scripts I’ve been sent in the last 100 years. It will also be particularly nice to work with Alison again since we joined forces in Clockwise all that time ago.”
Alison added: “I’m thrilled to be in Hold The Sunset and working with such an amazing cast.”
