Alex Beresford is eliminated from Dancing On Ice as Jake Quickenden tops the scoreboard again on Fairytale Week
ALEX Beresford has been eliminated on Dancing on Ice as the celebrities were tasked with a magical routines for this year's Fairytale week.
The GMB weatherman was up against Love Island’s Kem Cetinay in the skate-off of tonight's show, and performed to Crowded House's Don't Dream It's Over.
However, the judges voted to save Kem - who went up against them by performing a routine to Shawn Mendes’ There’s Nothing Holding Me Back.
Speaking about being eliminated, Alex said he had the "best time ever" and added: It's everything I could've wished for and more. When I came on for the first time I thought I'd be on for week one or week two."
As the show reached the quarter-finals, the nail-biting performances reached fever pitch as they all pulled out the stops to try and ensure their place in the semis next week.
This week, the remaining competitors were given the judges "SSS Challenge" – and during the routine had to perform a spiral, a salchow and a one-fitted spin with at least two rotations.
The final five also performed head-to-head in a group routine for the first time - dancing to Could It Be Magic? by Take That in a final bid to bag votes.
Here's everything you might have missed from tonight's show...
Max Evans and Brandee Malto - Hungry Like The Wolf by Duran Duran
Brandee Malto - who left the competition last week with partner Antony Cotton - was drafted back in after Max's partner came down with a bout of illness that left her unable to compete.
Performing a routine inspired by Little Red Riding Hood, Max turned into the big bad wolf as he performed alongside Brandee's Red for their routine.
The pair scored straight 8's across the board, with Christopher Dean giving them an impressive 8.5.
All the judges praised the pair for their performance at such short notice - which included a routine that involved a series of tricky lifts and moves.
Total Score: 32.5
Brooke Vincent and Matej Silecky - Black Magic by Little Mix
Taking a trip to Wonderland, Brooke and Matej turned into Alice and the Mad Hatter for the new performance.
During the performance, she performed the SSS challenge as well as the thread the needle cartwheel.
Achieving her highest score to date, proud Brooke beamed: "Oh I'm in the 30's! Jason's given me the highest! Oh my god that's crazy."
Admitting she was struggling with the salchow move, Brooke admitted: "I was just happy that I didn't fall over!"
Christopher Dean told the pair that her technicality was lacking, but her performance made up for it - something the rest of the judges also commented on.
Total Score: 30
Alex Beresford and Brianne Delcourt - King by Years and Years
Continuing the show's stay in Wonderland, Alex and Brianne performed as the King and Queen of Hearts for their routine.
Performing the sit lift, completing the SSS challenge and a box split lift, their efforts didn't entirely pay off - earning only 28 points.
Brianne sounded under the weather and admitted that she'd been struggling throughout the week.
She praised Alex for pushing through as she said: "He has been my king this week, he really held up the team."
"You skate really well but on a performance level you're so bland," said Jason, who scored them the lowest with 6. "If that was you trying to have control and power then you got it all wrong, it wasn't conveyed."
Total Score: 30
Jake Quickenden and Vanessa Bauer - Toxic by Britney Spears
Taking on a darker role of Snow White's Wicked Queen and her Huntsman, Jake and Vanessa had a lot to live up to after performing the first headbanger of the series last week.
Continually in first place for the past few weeks, the pair continued their winning streak with straight 9.5s across the board - scoring the highest score of the series with a staggering 38 out of 40.
Jake then joked: "I love wearing leather," before added: "I say it every week but [Vanessa's] just amazing, the amount of faith she puts in me, it's just amazing"
It was brilliant, if I were able to coach you, you'd be a delight," said Christopher.
Jason Gardiner said: "You are primed for the final - that was an incredible performance. You know how to make this partnership work and bring out the best in Jake."
"I like the way that you took that character and stayed in character, and I'm sure that had a lot to do with Vanessa," said Jayne.
Total Score: 38
Kem Cetinay and Alex Murphy - I Put A Spell On You by Nina Simone
Rounding off the performances, Kem and Alex turned into a princess and prince charming for their latest performance.
Finishing with the sorcerer's glide - which saw Alex slide on the feet of Kem in the show's final moments.
"This is real head and heart stuff for me," said Ashley Banjo, "Because technically you weren't as advanced as Jake, but those last moments were beautiful, that moment you did on the floor..."
"You have transformed and I didn't think you would transform," admitted Jason. "You're not having to put in all the big overhead lifts but what you're doing is incredible stuff that's really inventive and brilliant to watch."
"It would've been an 8.5 if you'd done the Salchow," said Christopher.
