Home and Away star Cornelia Francis reveals she’s battling bladder cancer but says Morag WILL return to Summer Bay

The 76-year-old actresss said she's struggling with the pain as the cancer has spread to her hip but has vowed to fight the disease

HOME and Away star Cornelia Francis has revealed she's battling bladder cancer.

The 76-year-old actress is best known for her role as Alf Stewart's sister Morag Bellingham in the long-running Australian soap.

Speaking about her illness, Cornelia admitted she's struggling with the pain as the cancer has spread to her hip.

However, she has vowed to fight the disease and hopes Morag will return to Summer Bay.

Cornelia was first diagnosed last year and opened up about her treatment on Australia's A Current Affair.

She said: "It's a hard road, but we'll get there.

"I'm feeling fine, albeit what's inside me. I'm really feeling ok. The pain comes and goes but you expect that.

"It's par for the course. We're gonna fight it, by god I am."

Cornelia has always played strong characters including a number of iconic TV villains and thanked producers for giving her some brilliant roles over the course of her 60 year career.

Speaking from Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital, she said: "I'd like to thank the producers who hired me because it ain't easy to put a bitch on television."

The hospital where she is being treated provided the set for Young Doctors in which she played evil Sister Grace Scott.

However, The Liverpoool-born actress is best known for her role as no nonsense lawyer Morag who has been turning up in Summer Bay on and off for 20 years.

Cornelia was last on Home and Away in April 2017 and has said she hopes to return when she has finished treatment.
