MASTERCHEF fans were up in arms during tonight’s episode after Anthony O’Shaughnessy cooked up a tart, during a pie making competition.

The wannabe chef gained a huge following after cooking chicken parmo earlier this week.

But this evening he caused outrage after his take on a pie appeared more like a tart.

The chef brought in to judge the servings even told Antony they would have to look at the American definition of a pie to judge his, saying his offering was akin to a Pecan Pie.

Some fans weren’t happy though, with one tweeting: “It's a tart, #masterchef not a pie!”

A second commented: “It's a tart, #masterchef not a pie!”

Another mused: “Hmmmm tart or flan?”

Luckily for Anthony, John Torode and Gregg Wallace loved his offering and sent him through to the next round.

Earlier this week Anthony thrilled by whipping up Teeside classic parmo chicken.

Anthony, who has also previously applied to appear on the Great British Bake Off, presented the breaded cutlet chicken alongside pickled cabbage and spicy beetroot ketchup and by his own admission, said: “It's a bit risky.”

Describing the dish to the judges, Anthony said: “A parmo is a deep fried breaded chicken cutlet.

“And then you cover it in béchamel sauce, really strong Cheddar cheese on top and then you grill it.

“It's from an Italian chef who came here in World War Two and opened a restaurant on Linthorpe Road.”

Anthony added: “Many people in the North-East and on Teesside and will be thinking 'Oh God, he's made a chicken parmo on Masterchef, it's bit risky.

“Making it glamorous, that's going to be a bit of a challenge, but really it's all about the flavour and that's what I want to get across.”

One viewer wrote: “Next big thing? It ALREADY is!" while someone else said: “#chickenparmo is trending and this literally the greatest thing to happen in the history of Teesside”.

Another added: “I absolutely love that Anthony did a chicken parmo on Masterchef and made it through. He has got to win now.”
