The University of Central Lancashire's will launch in September 2018 and will be completed in two rather than three to help reduce student debt.

For the course, the university has even built a street with pub and newsagent – just like’s Corrie’s Rovers Return and Kabin.

As well as that, there are also interior sets of houses, shops and the pub, plus state-of-the-art control rooms and editing suites.

The degree – backed by Street stars Jennie McAlpine and John Thomson – will give students the chance to gain work experience on soaps like Corrie, Emmerdale and EastEnders.

Cold Feet star John, who played Jesse Chadwick on Corrie for two years, said: “This is an exciting and innovative course that will give students a real-world experience.

“It will focus on creating the next generation of producers, directors, sounds engineers, editors, writers and camera operators, giving them the practical skills and training they need to stand out in a very competitive industry.”

And Jennie, who plays Coronation Street's Fiz Brown, helped launch the course with a Q&A for prospective students.

She told them that the behind-the-scenes teams and camera crews on Corrie were treated like part of the family.
