The dramatic finale saw Eileen snap after finally learning the truth about her murderous husband's crimes as they had a showdown at the lighthouse.

The pair ended up tussling with him falling through the railings.

Surviving and trying to climb back up, Phelan begged Eileen to help him, but then he went too far with his lies and claimed he had her missing son Todd hidden like he did with victim Andy Carver.

Screaming at him, Eileen stamped on his hands, causing him to fall into the raging sea below them and putting an end to his reign of terror.

Earlier killer Phelan confessed all to Eileen.

“Four, Eileen. There were four bodies, four souls and I bore witness over all of them,” he said as they circled each other in the pouring rain at the lighthouse.

“Do you really want to know what I am? I’m that, I’m the darkness and the light, I’m a creator and a destroyer, the accuser and the prosecutor, I’m the Lord of Hope, I’m the layer in wait, I’m the worst thing you can imagine.

Eileen cut him down swiftly, saying: “You’re insane.”

He continued: “Best you hear the truth from me rather than someone else.

“First one was Michael, your Michael. I didn’t actually kill him… I just watched him when his heart packed up.

“Back then I wasn’t sure I could kill. That’s why I locked up Andy in a cellar for months, almost a year in fact.”

He added to a terrified Eileen: “Turns out I could kill, turns out I was pretty good at it. I got him to finish Vinny off. Andy and Vinny, the concrete twins.”

Confronted about Luke, he then said: “Poor Luke, well Luke was an obstacle you see love and by then I was pretty good at killing, it was almost easy. It was like I couldn’t lose.”

Backed up against the railings, Eileen threatened to throw the boat keys into the sea to stop him from leaving.

“You’re not going anywhere, you’re going to pay for what you’ve done,” she told him defiantly.

And when he threatened to kill her to get the keys, they fought and he fell before she finished him off.
