Davina McCall reveals having kids put a strain on her marriage and forced husband to sleep in spare room
DAVINA McCall has revealed that having kids put a strain on her marriage and her husband would often sleep in the spare room.
The telly star admitted that when her first child Holly was born she would "punish" husband Matthew Robertson, who she is now in the process of divorcing.
Speaking on the , the mum-of-three said she would deliberately put the bedside lamp on during night feeds and nappy changes.
She said by the time their next two children, Tilly and Chester, came along Matthew - who she was married to for 17 years - would take himself off to the spare bedroom to sleep.
The former Big Brother presenter told podcast host Giovanna Fletcher: “I remember him going to the pub and I was going ‘Oh I will come… oh no I won’t, the baby’s upstairs’.
“With Holly I sort of wanted to punish Matthew in some way and keep him up.
"So we slept in the same bed and with the feeds I would turn the light on and change the nappy.
“You know – the bedside light, change nappy, do the feed. And think well, I am sorry if you're awake.”
Davina added: “With the second and the third one we’d fall asleep in the bed together and with the midnight feed he’d go off and get in the spare room and sleep.
“And that sounds selfish because it's like the guy gets to go to sleep. But actually my feeling was if one of us gets some sleep then they can make tea or whatever for the other one the next day.
"Also for me it was nice to turn on the telly - I remember one night watching Happy Gilmore and doing some feeding and changing the nappy and thinking this was actually quite nice.
"It was three o'clock in the morning but I can be awake without feeling guilty that I'm keeping Matthew awake."
