Fury as BBC Radio 1 DJs Nick Grimshaw and Greg James keep FULL salary despite having their Friday shows axed

THE BBC has sparked fury after letting Radio 1 star Nick Grimshaw go from a five to four-day week on his full salary.

It is shaking up the station’s Friday schedule and also given DJ Greg James, 32, the same deal.

Grimshaw, 33, will continue to trouser £350,000-£399,000 for working Monday to Thursday and James £150,000-£199,000.

James Price, of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said: “Many of us might dream of being paid the same amount but working less, but it’s just not right that licence fee payers should foot the bill.”

The station are introducing a new Weekend Breakfast Show which will air first thing on a Friday.

The BBC wants to create a weekend atmosphere on Fridays.

Strictly star Mollie joined Matt Edmondson’s weekend show as a celebrity co-presenter this year while Maya co-hosted with Scott Mills and Chris Stark on a Friday.

A radio source said: “A four day week has been introduced for presenters including Nick and Greg.

“Mollie and Maya joined the Radio 1 family this year and impressed bosses with their contribution and are now joining the line-up on a permanent basis.

“Scott has managed to avoid having his hours cut and will still present five days a week.

“All presenters are being paid exactly the same despite having their workloads reduced until their contracts face renewal.”

The Friday morning show, in replacement of Nick's current segment, will be called Radio 1's Greatest Hits with Maya Jama.

Mollie will partner up with Matt but this time presenting on Friday afternoons between 1-4pm.

According to an official announcement by Radio 1, Scott fulfils a "life-long dream" by presenting The Official Chart on Friday's to conclude the week.

The shake-up comes just two months after Nick managed to regain Radio 1 listeners after receiving the worst ever figures last summer.

He added almost 800,000 weekly listeners to his show in the last quarter of 2017.
