Who’s presenting the British Soap Awards 2019 and who’s hosted in previous years? From 1999 to 2019

IT'S that time of year again - the British Soap Awards- which will see the creme de la creme of the soap world gathering to see who's taking home a gong.

The 2019 glitzy event will take place on June 1, but who's going to be making or breaking dreams when they hand out the coveted metal and glass awards?

Who’s hosting the British Soap Awards 2019?

The host of the British Soap Awards 2019 is Phillip Schofield.

Daytime TV fave Phil has been the man with the mic for the last TWELVE years.

The TV personality has been helming the ceremony as the official host since 2006.

Fern Britton previously hosted the British Soap Awards from 2006 until 2008 alongside Schofield.

Who previously hosted The British Soap Awards?

Phil hosted the British Soap Awards from 2006 to 2017.

In that time he handed trophies to Charlotte Bellamy who took the Best Actress award for her portrayal of Laurel Thomas in Emmerdale in 2017.

In 2016 he handed the Best Newcomer award to Bonnie Langford for playing Carmel Kazemi in EastEnders.

Shane Richie and Jessie Wallace took the award for Best On-Screen partnership for the roles of Kat and Alfie Moon in EastEnders in 2011.

The Who killed Archie Mitchell? plot took the award for Best Storyline under Phil’s watchful eye in 2010.

Fern Britton joined Phil behind the podium between 2006 and 2008.

In 2008 they handed a Lifetime Achievement Award to Liz Dawn for her portrayal of Vera Duckworth in Coronation Street.

In 2007 Gemma Merna, who played Carmel McQueen in Hollyoaks, walked off with the award for Best Comedy Performance.

Oft overlooked soap Doctors took the Best Single Episode award for Shreds and Aftermath the same year.

Dog-lover Paul kept everyone corralled from 2004 – 2005.

Suranne Jones took home the Best Actress award that year for her part playing Karen McDonald in Corrie.

The same year June Brown took home the Lifetime Achievement Award for playing Dot Branning in EastEnders.

In 2004, Paul presided as Charlie Brooks took home Villain of the Year for Janine Butcher in the Walford based soap.

Des O’Connor and Melanie Sykes headed up the glitzy ceremony in 2013.

Cruelly axed Scouse soap Brookside took home a trio of awards that year.

Jack McMullen was awarded Best Newcomer for playing Josh McLoughlin in the soap.

Best On-Screen Partnership was awarded to Jack McMullen and Sarah White for playing Josh and Bev McLoughlin, and Dean Sullivan was given a Lifetime Achievement Award for Jimmy Corkhill.

Beard aficionado Matthew Kelly was the man who made or crushed dreams in 2002.

The Best Single Episode award went to the now iconic episode of EastEnders in which Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) found out that Kat Slater was her mum.

“You’re not my mother!”

“Yes I am!”

Richard and Judy hosted the awards for three years.

In 2001 Natalie Cassidy took Best Actress for Sonia Jackson in EastEnders.

In 2000 Home and Away took the now-defunct Best Foreign Soap award.

And in the award's inaugural year, Kelvin Fletcher took Best Dramatic Performance for playing Andy Sugden in Emmerdale.
