Who are the Avengers: Infinity War characters?

There's an absolute glut of superheroes appearing in this third Avengers film, including:

Iron Man

Leader and benefactor of the Avengers. Billionaire playboy and engineer Tony Stark becomes the superhero Iron-Man after he's critically wounded by weapons made by his own company. Infinity War marks a decade for Robert Downey Jr in the role.

Thor

The King of Asgard based on the Norse mythology deity, Thor is looking to return to Earth after the events of Ragnarok that saw his kingdom destroyed. The film is Chris Hemsworth's sixth outing as the God of Thunder.

Hulk

Bruce Banner is a genius scientist who suffers an over-exposure to gamma radiation that transforms him into the Incredible Hulk when he becomes enraged or agitated. Hulk was discovered by Thor on the planet Sakaar and is taken back to Earth. Mark Ruffalo replaced Edward Norton in the role for 2012's Avengers Assemble.

Captain America

The former leader of the Avengers and now a fugitive superhero, Captain America was part of an experiment during World War 2 to enhance him to the peak of human physicality. After a plane crash, he's left frozen in suspended animation before waking up in the modern world. Infinity War is the last in Chris Evans' original six-picture deal to portray the superhuman soldier.

Black Widow

Former KGB and SHIELD spy, Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanoff thought she had found love with Bruce Banner before he disappeared after Age of Ultron and is now dealing with the consequences of her actions to betray the Soviet Accords when she let Captain America and Bucky escape.

Dr Strange

Former world-class neurosurgeon, Benedict Cumberbatch's Dr Stephen Strange is left unable to continue his work after a car accident. Exhausting his funds attempting to find a cure, he discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions. He's also shown to be in possession of one of the fabled Infinity stones.

Spider-Man

The third iteration of the teenaged web-slinger, Tom Holland's Spiderman was introduced in Civil War as Tony Stark's protege before his solo outing in Spiderman: Homecoming. Genius schoolboy Peter Parker is given the ability to climb walls and detect danger when he's bitten by a radioactive spider.

Black Panther

The King of fictional African nation Wakanda, T'Challa gains his superhuman strength by ingesting a Heart-Shaped Herb. Wakanda is also the home of the most powerful metal Vibranium, which is what Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther suit is made out of.

Star-Lord

The half-human, half-celestial leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy will be making his first crossover appearance in the MCU since his first outing in 2014. Chris Pratt's Peter Quill was abducted from Earth as a child before being raised by the Ravagers, a group of alien thieves.

Thanos

The intergalactic mad-titan made his first cameo appearance as a post-credits tease in 2012's Avengers Assemble and is the reason all of our heroes are uniting. His goal is to unite the Infinity Stones to achieve universal power. Josh Brolin has been cast for a small role in Guardians of the Galaxy before he makes his grand return this year.

Does anyone die in Avengers: Infinity War?

Marvel Studios have been serious about treating Infinity War as a finale for the characters who were introduced in phase 1 of the MCU and who have already had individual trilogies.

Screenwriter Stephen McFeely : "It's safe to say we will say farewell to people."

Whilst there may be no more prominent appearances from Robert Downey Jr's Iron-Man after this, he may not necessarily die, as is the case with Thor and Black Widow.

Those in most danger include Captain America, who survived the film storyline that killed him in the comics, and Vision, who has an infinity stone in his own head.

It's safe to bet on characters like Spider-Man and Black Panther surviving seeing as they're advertised for future movies after Infinity War.

See out spoilers for full details on the ending of the film, who dies in the latest Marvel release plus all the Easter eggs.
