EMMERDALE fans praised the soap's "powerful" scenes tonight as painkiller-addict Ross Barton turned violent when confronted by Rhona Goskirk.
Ross has been struggling to cope with his recent acid attack that left him scarred for life.
In a bid to dull the physical and emotional pain, Ross has been popping pills - and Rhona makes the dangerous decision to confiscate them.
Ross storms round to her house and demands she return them - but Rhona is left shaken when he throws her to the ground in a furious rage.
In the second episode of the double-bill, Ross cries: "I would never hurt you" before finally admitting to his addiction.
Fans hailed the moving scenes - and voiced fears that Rhona would get flashbacks about being raped.
One said: "That last scene with Ross and Rhona was incredibly powerful.
"Can't help but hate Ross right now.
"It must be so painful for Rhona to have to drag up all those memories of Pierce and their wedding day."
Another added: "Didn’t even realise that I was completely frozen stiff until the episode finished and my whole body sagged... Ross what are you doing, rational people don’t act like that."
Someone else said: "This was a really good (and horrifying) parallel for Rhona. Great scene. Mike did well, but I do not like Ross for this."
Viewers will remember Rhona's own battle with painkiller abuse to "numb out the emotional pain" she was suffering.
But her offering of help and support was thrown back in her face as Ross tried to convince her he was coping.
Their heated exchange soon turned emotional as Ross cried out: "Who would want to wake up next to this?
