Who is Marc Spelmann? Britain’s Got Talent 2019 runner-up who kept his identity hidden as Magician X until the final
MARC Spelmann concealed his identity for much of Britain's Got Talent 2019 as Magician X, but finally revealed himself during the live finale, leaving the judges and those alike spellbound.
The entertainer returned to the ITV talent show for a second shot at being crowned winner, however, he was tipped to the post by army veteran Colin Thackery and placed second. Here's everything you need to know about the mysterious entertainer.
Who is Marc Spelmann?
Marc Spelmann is a 47-year-old magician from London, who first appeared on Britain's Got Talent in 2018.
He has entertained audiences for more than two decades, and according to his Facebook page has performed for "heads of state, royalty and celebrities".
The entertainer, who is the proud father of three-year-old daughter Isabella, used his first audition on the ITV show to share his and wife Tessa's battle to conceive the little girl.
Marc's story was so poignant it reduced Ant McPartlin to tears, as the magician told how his wife had seven rounds of IVF treatment to try and get pregnant, before being diagnosed with breast cancer.
Thankfully, Tessa had chemotherapy, and both her and little Isabella survived.
How did Magician X reveal his identity?
Magician X removed his mask during the final of Britain's Got Talent 2019 to reveal himself as Marc and described the moment as the "best ever".
Speaking to The Mirror, he added: "TV doesn’t do it justice. It was like a roar in a colosseum when the mask came off. It was really, really special.
“I’ve been an entertainer for 25 years and it was one of those moments that will stay with me until my last breath."
Despite his efforts, Marc failed to win the public vote and placed runner-up to winner Colin Thackery.
What did he say about Simon Cowell on Twitter?
Following his 2018 audition it was revealed Marc posted a string of insults on Twitter back in 2012.
In the tweets, he called the show "a joke" and said that viewers were "deluded".
He has since deleted the scathing rant, but not before fans took screenshots.
Spelmann told The Sun: “I have changed rather a lot in the last six years and the offhand tweets I made about Britain’s Got Talent many years ago in no way reflect my thoughts and feelings on the show now.
“I am a huge fan of the series and it has been a dream of mine to perform for the judges since before my daughter was born.
“The tweets were careless comments made from my sofa, which I have since deleted as I would not want to give the impression I feel that way."
