DALE Winton revealed an emotional experience with a fan last summer lifted his spirits as he battled depression.
The late TV star was touched by the kind words of an admirer during a dark time last year.
Winton, 62, passed away at his home yesterday and the news sent the showbiz world into mourning.
We can now reveal that the Supermarket Sweep host, who spent years battling depression, was moved by a sweet encounter with a fan who gave him a much-needed boost.
Talking to The Sun's TV mag he said: "The nicest thing that happened to me with a fan was last summer when I was in London and I was having a really bad day.
"I do suffer with depression, as my mother did. I was in this restaurant, the Spaghetti House, with a friend of mine, looking like a bag of s****.
"There was a woman sitting at the table behind and she heard me talking.
"She was this beautiful black woman. She looked like Diana Ross.
"She got up and said to me: ‘I do apologise for interrupting you...
"But may I say I absolutely adore you and hearing your voice has given me such a joy'."
A statement confirmed the sad news that Dale passed away yesterday.
His long-term agent Jan Kennedy said: “It is with great sadness that we can confirm the passing of Dale Winton who died at home earlier today.
“While we know many will share this terrible loss, we ask that you respect the family's privacy at this time of grief.”
After the sad news broke, his fans flooded social media with tributes to the telly star - with Piers Morgan leading the messages of condolences.
