When did Verne Troyer die and what was his cause of death?

VERNE Troyer was one of Hollywood's most recognisable faces in Hollywood in the 90s and 00s with a slew of hit roles to his name.

The star made famous in the Austin Powers movies, who tragically passed away, will go down in history as one of the acting community's brightest stars. Here is what we know about him.

Who was Verne Troyer?

Verne Troyer was an American actor who was notable for his height which was caused by achondroplasia dwarfism.

This never stopped him achieving great heights - he was best known for playing Mini-Me in the Austin Powers series and he also starred in British film Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone as Griphook the Goblin.

The Michigan-born actor, unfortunately, had a sex tape leaked in 2008 by his then-girlfriend Ranae Shrider.

And then in 2009, he appeared on Celebrity Big Brother UK.

Although his film output declined over the years, he never stopped doing what he loved - he starred in the Keith Lemon film in 2012 and starred as The Gnome in Gnome Alone in 2018.

Verne and his girlfriend Brittney Powell appeared on Celebrity Wife Swap in 2015.

When did Verne Troyer die?

Verne passed away on April 21, 2018.

The star's family confirmed the news with a statement on his Instagram page.

"It is with great sadness and incredibly heavy hearts to write that Verne passed away today.

"Verne was an extremely caring individual. He wanted to make everyone smile, be happy, and laugh. Anybody in need, he would help to any extent possible.

"Verne hoped he made a positive change with the platform he had and worked towards spreading that message every day.

What was the cause of his death?

At the time of writing it is not clear what his cause of death was.

His family, however, have issued a statement that says: "Depression and Suicide are very serious issues.

"You never know what kind of battle someone is going through inside. Be kind to one another.

"And always know, it’s never too late to reach out to someone for help."

The star was rushed to hospital with alcohol poisoning and had suicidal thoughts weeks before his death.

He was held for 72 hours after friends of the actor called emergency services to check up on him after becoming concerned he was "upset, drunk and suicidal."

On April 24, 2018 it was reported he had a "very high" amount of alcohol inside his system when he died, his coroner has revealed, and that his death was being considered as a "possible suicide".

What has he starred in?

Verne starred as Mini-Me in the second and third Austin Powers movies - The Spy Who Shagged Me and Goldmember.

From 1994 to 2009 he starred in films, TV shows and music videos (one of which was for Madonna).

Most of his TV appearances were panel, reality and contest shows like Through The Key Hole, Celebrity Juice and Celebrity Big Brother.

In film he had roles in a number of iconic movies like Men in Black and Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

He also played himself in a few films like College and Pauly Shore Is Dead.
