Britain’s Got Talent’s rock pensioner Jenny Darren reveals she missed out on millions after giving hit song to Pat Benatar
BRITAIN'S Got Talent's rock pensioner Jenny Darren has revealed she missed out on millions after giving away a hit song to Pat Benatar.
The veteran singer, who amazed the judges on the show with her AC/DC tribute, narrowly missed out on chart stardom back in the 1970s.
Jenny, 68, had a record contract 40 years ago, supported AC/DC on tour and even released her own album Queen of Fools in 1978.
On the record was a track called Heartbreaker, which was later given to rising star Pat Benatar who recorded it and made it a huge international hit.
During an appearance on Good Morning Britain today, Jenny revealed she's gutted that she missed out on her big chance.
Host Susanna Reid asked: "You could have been a massive star - what happened?"
She said: "My record company they released it on an album - Queen Of Fools back in 1978 - the album did OK.
"But because they were also a publishing house, then Pat came along, heard the song and said 'Ooh I like this song but I'd like to change a couple of lyrics'.
"And it was her breakthrough - she got it!"
They then played both versions of the song and both Piers Morgan and Susanna agreed that Jenny's version was better.
Piers then asked Jenny how much she could have made from that song.
She replied: "A few million".
Jenny added: "I have [wondered how much I could have made] - but what could I do?
"I was young, it was a few million... that song led to everything, the career. I don't dwell on these things."
