The couple had been married for nine years and have spent the previous eight months supervising building work on a five-bed home.
A source said: “It’s very amicable but they’ve decided to go their separate ways.
“Alan’s been joking that he’s having a mid-life crisis and he went and treated himself to a brand new car five days ago. It’s a difficult time for both of them.
“They’re devastated the marriage is over but have vowed to stay friends. They still really care for each other.”

Lucy Jo-Hudson, 34, is an actress who has starred in Doctors and Wild At Heart.
She met Alan on the set of Coronation Street in 2002 when she played Katy Harris.
They got married in 2009 and have a daughter Sienna-Rae born in September of the same year.
The couple previously announced they were splitting in March 2016 but got back together a few weeks later.
