EastEnders’ Lisa Faulkner opens up about adoption joy after years of failed IVF and tragic miscarriages
LISA Faulkner has spoken of her adoption joy after years of fertility woes.
The former EastEnders star is the proud mum of daughter Billie, but the road to motherhood was certainly a rocky one for Lisa.
The actress, 46, suffered years of heartache after enduring failed IVF, miscarriages and even an ectopic pregnancy.
But Lisa’s life was turned around when she adopted daughter Billie with ex-husband Chris Coghill in 2008.
Revealing she has no plans to add to her brood, she told : “I have got my little girl and I’m completely over the moon with my little angel. She is my number one, she is my everything.”
Lisa was left with only one working Fallopian tube after suffering an ectopic pregnancy at six weeks.
She later spent £35,000 on four rounds of IVF after struggling to conceive, though they were unsuccessful.
Revealing the pain left her a “walking mess”, Lisa said it was especially difficult when all of her friends were falling pregnant.
She recalled: “All my friends at the time were getting pregnant around me and it was heartbreaking. You want to be happy for everybody and you feel like such a failure.”
“But there are other ways to be a mother. It took a long time for me to go, ‘I don’t have to carry a baby to be a mum’. One day you have to let that go.”
Billie split from ex EastEnders star Chris in 2012 after seven years of marriage.
She found love with MasterChef star John Torode, who has four children from preview relationships, later that year.
