A WHO Wants To Be A Millionaire? contestant won £125,000 by naming the location of a castle — where he lost his leg in a car crash.

Gareth Kendall, 32, was asked where the ruins of Urquhart Castle in Scotland stood.

He told ITV quiz host Jeremy Clarkson: “I know this because I lost my leg there.”

Gareth nearly died in the crash and his left leg had to be amputated.

The smash happened after he visited the castle at Loch Ness.

He is the first contestant to win a six-figure sum after a string of failures during the week-long 20th anniversary series.

On Thursday night Gareth of Halifax, revealed how he had the words One Foot In The Grave tattooed on his right leg, after losing his left leg in the smash.

He told how he “died” five times as doctors ­battled to save his life.

He said: “I flatlined before I got to the hospital, flatlined at the hospital. So I’ve beaten the odds.

“When I came into ICU, they told mum, my dad, my wife, that I had a 2 per cent chance of living.”

"When asked if he knew a question about the NHS, deli owner Gareth joked: “I should, the amount of time I’ve spent in ­hospital.”

Dad-of-three Gareth is the most successful contestant since the reboot of the show hit screens last week.

Host Clarkson has been berating contestants for their bad performances.

One even struggled to answer a question on where Blackpool Tower is.

The original Who Wants To Be A Millionaire ran from 1998 to 2014, and was hosted by Chris Tarrant.

Clarkson, 58, revived it for the anniversary.
