Beyonce’s mum Tina reveals she sent daughters to counselling so Solange wouldn’t live in Bey’s shadow
The fashion designer sent both of her daughters to counselling when they were children to cope with Beyonce's rocketing fame
TINA Knowles has revealed she made Beyonce and Solange go to counselling when they were younger.
She said she was aware that Solange, 31, was growing up in the shadow of her big sister Beyonce, 36, whose career had already taken off.
Tina, 64, said: "I was very sensitive to that [favouritism] because I grew up where I felt like my mother liked my brother more and she loved him more so I was very sensitive to it.
"So I had days that I devoted to Solange...
"It was tough, she was five years younger than Beyonce and Beyonce was the little superstar in our city."
Despite the sisters being close now, she also admitted that their relationship was fractured when they were growing up.
Tina said: "I took them to counselling so that the counselor could help Beyonce be more sensitive to Solange because she couldn't stand her for a minute when they were little...
"But it made her [Beyonce] more sensitive to her sister and what she [Solange] had to deal with because of her."
She went on: "I wanted Beyonce to be sensitive to the fact that Solange had to deal with the fact of being a little bit in her shadow, and it made her way more sensitive and protective.
Despite being local celebrities from a young age, Beyonce's career rocketed in 1997 when Destiny's Child released their debut album.
