DAVID Walliams gave "tense" pal Declan Donnelly a massage during his first solo presenting performance on Britain's Got Talent.

The Geordie host had earlier told viewers to "rest assured" that nothing had changed about the variety show, before making a joke about his co-presenter Ant McPartlin's absence.

Dec said: "Welcome to the Hammersmith Apollo, our brand new home.

"We may have a new home but rest assured nothing else has changed.

"The talent is as good as ever, the judges are exactly the same and the presenters...

"Well let's not dwell on that, let's just get on with the show."

BGT was plunged into a 15-minute blackout because of technical difficulties.

Afterwards, judge David asked Dec how he was doing, describing him as looking "tense".

He said: "Sorry, you're just looking a tiny bit tense.

"Let me try to get rid of that while you do the link."

David then joined Dec in front of the judges' table to give him a neck and back massage.

In the second part of the show, David praised Dec for going it alone.

He said: "Can I just say you have done a magnificent job tonight."

Earlier Simon had also brought up Ant who has taken a step back from his TV commitments following his drink-drive crash.

As Dec blamed the technical blunder on bad weather, Simon cut in to joke Ant had something to do with it.

He said: "Ant you are coming back next year, you don't have to do that."

Ant chose to step out of the public eye following a three-car smash in Richmond, London, in March.

He was later fined £86,000 and given a 20-month driving ban after pleading guilty to drink-driving.
