Gemma Atkinson says she broke the Strictly Come Dancing curse by striking up successful romance with Gorka Marquez
The couple got together after Gemma appeared on the programme in 2017 and they struck up a romance over a slice of pizza after the launch
GEMMA Atkinson will never fall foul to the Strictly Come Dancing curse after finding love with Gorka Marquez on the show.
The actress, 33, appeared on the BBC ballroom contest last year and fell for 27-year-old professional dancer Gorka whilst taking part.
Some contestants who have previously sparked up romances after competing on the series have found themselves unlucky in love and split, causing the rise of the Strictly curse.
But Gemma insists this won’t be the case for her, telling the Sunday People: “With Gorka, I had six months of getting to know him as a friend, that’s what is different.
“I’ve never fallen for a friend before. For us it was a Strictly blessing. We weren’t dancing together and we were both single.
“No one got hurt or trampled on, no one left anybody for anybody else so it was literally a Strictly blessing for me and Gorks.”

Gemma revealed on Thursday that Gorka first won her heart with a slice of pizza at 2am.
The former Emmerdale star shared the couple’s first drunken selfie on Instagram with her followers and admitted it did not take twinkle-toed Gorka much effort for her to start falling for him.
She wrote: “#tb to mind and @gorka_marquez first night out together! Who’d have thought a tipsy taxi ride after the Strictly launch party would lead us to where we are now.
“I’m so glad that on that evening you asked for my phone number, and I’m thankful you got me that much needed 2am pizza, got me back to my hotel and handed me over to the girls safely, and rang me in the morning checking I’d made my train back to Manchester.
“(I hadn’t) but hey! It was fun, and it lead to our friendship which months later, lead to our partnership.
“The rest they say is history and I cannot wait to see what the future holds with you Gorks!”
