James Corden reveals he’s desperate to land Beyonce for Carpool Karaoke
As the chat show host brings his show to Britain for one week only, he chats about his dream Carpool Karaoke guest and reveals what it's like to be a dad-of-three living in the limelight
He’s one of the biggest stars on the planet, having taken America by storm with his affable humour and brilliant collaborations with singing stars on his Late Late Show.
And this week, James Corden brings the Emmy award-winning programme to London as he films in front of a live studio audience for episodes that will be broadcast both here and in the US.
But not everyone’s impressed with James’ fame – namely his son Max, seven.
“He’s totally aware, he just doesn’t care,” laughs the 39-year-old presenter.
“He’s like: ‘Yeah, that’s cool.’ That’s all I get. That’s the great thing about having family, it doesn’t matter who you are or what you do out there, when you’re at home, behind closed doors, you’re no one special.
"I’m just Dad. I do the dishes and make funny faces, that’s all I’m good for!”
James has recently added to his brood. Along with Max, he and wife Julia also have two daughters, Carey, three, and six-month-old Charlotte.
So it’s a wonder he has found time to travel back to the UK from the family’s LA home for this week’s shows, which will boast celebrity guests including Cher and Niall Horan.
“We’re quite exhausted,” he admits about life with three kids. “There’s a lot of activity in the house and a whole day seems to slip by in a minute, but it’s a really great time.
"We thought we’d stop at two. Turns out, three is the magic number. My wife has started making not very subtle hints at medical procedures [for me], so it’s not too difficult to decipher from that, I think we’re done!”
While this week’s guest for James’ famous Carpool Karaoke segment was still top secret at the time TV Mag went to print, he says there is one star he’s desperate to secure for the slot.
“Beyoncé,” he laughs. “She’s the ultimate. But she’s got a few other things going on now, so I think the show might be a little low on her rung of priorities!”
