Coronation Street’s Sue Cleaver says fans ‘don’t know the whole story’ of Bruno Langley’s sacking from the soap
The soap staple spoke out in defence of her on-screen son, warning fans not to "make assumptions." This comes after the actor was sacked in November last year after a woman accused him of sexual assault
CORRIE legend Sue Cleaver says fans don't know the "whole story" of Bruno Langley's sacking over his sex crime shame.
The actress spoke out in defence of her on-screen son as she responded to fans on Twitter.
The 54-year-old wrote: "Do not make assumptions unless you know the whole story. If in doubt, ask the person directly.”
Her tweet was in response to a conversation about bringing Bruno back to the long-running soap.
One named 'Too Shy Shy' insisted: “You can’t bring him back (Todd) he was charged and found guilty after admitting what he did and coronation street won’t want their name tarnished with that unless they use a different actor.”
Sue became embroiled in a heated discussion when the user quipped back saying "it's not assumptions it's the truth".
Coronation Street bosses fired Bruno after cops probed a woman's claim that he sexually assaulted her in a club.
The 34-year-old actor - who played Todd Grimshaw - had his contract terminated by ITV after allegations of inappropriate behaviour were made by a woman in her 30s who was at a Manchester nightclub called Band on the Wall.
Bruno was convicted of two charges of sexual assault in November following a drunken night out with friends.
The actor confessed to groping two women in a Manchester nightclub.
Bruno gave a tearful apology following his appearance in the dock.
He told The Sunday Mirror: “I have no excuse, no one forced me to drink to such an extreme, but it is hard to explain why I would do anything as dreadful as that.
“It must have been awful for those women, and I am ashamed of myself. I’m truly sorry.
“I sincerely apologise to the women, from the bottom of my heart. I promise I will never do anything like that again.”
Bruno is currently serving a 12 month community order involving a curfew and electronic tag.
Since his conviction, Bruno has told his pals of his plans to move on with his life and revealed earlier this year he was hoping to return to showbiz as a director.
The shamed actor has been laying low since his conviction but was recently spotted looking downcast as he came out of an estate agents.
