SIMON Cowell failed to recognise Britain's Got Talent semi-finalist Mr Uekusa when the Japanese variety performer auditioned for the American spin-off show.
The 30-year-old shocked viewers with an almost identical audition but while he stormed through to the live finals in Britain, his stint on America's Got Talent was over within minutes.
Going by the name of Wes-P for his audition, the performer failed to impress Simon's fellow judges Mel B, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel.
Despite previously seeing the act on Britain's Got Talent, Simon asked: "Who are you? Where are you from and have you flown in to do the show?" Simon went on to ask for more details about the traditional Japanese act.
Mr Uekusa had the studio audience hiding their faces in horror as he stripped naked and removed items from his body with a speedy tablecloth trick.
Eagle-eyed fans noticed Simon's forgetful moment, commenting: "Why did Simon say 'Who are you?' when about a month before hand, he filmed BGT auditions."
An insider tells The Sun Online: "The American auditions were filmed after the BGT auditions, so Simon had seen the act, but before the UK live shows.
"But obviously the show is cut together and not everything Simon says on stage makes it onto the show.
"So what went out onscreen might look like he hasn't seen the act before when he actually has."
Mr Uekusa made it to the live finals of this year's Britain's Got Talent after leaving hosts Ant and Dec in hysterics with his bizarre audition.
