The 36-year-old actor has been spending time on both sides of the pond as his Hollywood career takes off
RUSSELL Tovey has confirmed his split from fiance Steve Brockman just four months after their engagement.
The 36-year-old actor spoke to fans about the shock break-up via his Instagram account.
Russell uploaded a selfie from a hotel gym and fans soon begged for an update on his romantic life.
One follower asked: "@RussellTovey are you still with @Steve_The_Brockman?"
The actor replied: "No darling," prompting an outpouring of comments from devoted followers. The original curious fan responded: "So sorry. I'm wishing you the best. Love you."
One asked: "OK, wanna date me then?"
Rugby player and fitness fanatic Steve would often jet out to New York where Russell had US TV filming commitments.
The star made a name for himself in The History Boys and TV series Sherlock, but believes it wasn't until he started taking on gay roles around six years ago that he says his career took off.
He previously told : “It wasn’t a conscious decision,”
"And it was only the other day that I realised it had been important somehow.
"For so long, as a young actor, I had this anxiety about making sure I could get straight roles, and now I know that’s not necessary.
"The gay roles are the best for me. Being gay has made my career.”
