Emmerdale’s Liam Cavanagh staying in the village as his wife Maya embarks on shock affair with David Metcalfe
Actor Jonny McPherson will become a full-time cast member after brief stints since 2014
EMMERDALE has gained a new hunky doctor in the shape of Liam Cavanagh - who has now been confirmed as a show regular.
Actor Jonny McPherson has made brief appearances on the soap since 2014 but as his storylines with wife Maya's affair develop, he'll be appearing a lot more.
Jonny's agents The Narrow Road Co confirmed the news on Twitter, announcing that their client is now a full-time member of the Emmerdale cast.
Alongside Jonny's headshot and the Emmerdale logo, they tweeted: "Our wonderful client @JonnyMcPherson is a new regular in @Emmerdale - say hello to Dr Liam Cavanagh!"
His previous appearances on the much-loved ITV soap have been in a purely medical context as the doctor treated the locals.
But he will now be more prominent as wife Maya's affair with soap regular David Metcalfe develops.
This week saw Maya and David grow closer as they bonded over their flawed marriages.
And as the tipsy pair end up almost locking lips, Maya’s husband walks in and catches them in the act.
He lets rip at both David, played by Matthew Wolfenden, and Maya for sneaking around behind his back.
Meanwhile Tracy admits to her half-sister Vanessa Woodfield that she isn’t as much over David as she thought and decides to head off to see him to sort things out.
She arrives just as the row between David and Liam is escalating, and when she walks in, David is mortified to realise she’s overheard everything.
Convinced that David will never ever change his spots, she heads back home and tells Vanessa that she’s pressing on with the divorce.
David and Tracy split earlier this year after she discovered he’d secretly slept with Leyla and had visited her in Greece, claiming he was at a work conference.
