Love Island’s Marcel Somerville backs Tyla Carr over her comments show is fake — as he slams the latest crop for playing games
LOVE Island’s Marcel Somerville has backed Tyla Carr over her comments the show is faked — as he blasts this year's shows for playing games and not looking for love.
Blazin’ Squad band member Marcel, 32, says producers told him to talk about certain things when he was having relationship problems.
Speaking on Dan’s Dilemmas with Dr Linda Papadopoulos on talkRADIO, he said: “It’s a TV programme so there are elements when, say for instance there’s been a drama going on and you’ve had an argument with someone, the producers will say to you, ‘Can you two go and talk about your situation and get everything cleared up.
“They’ll say to you, ‘Can you have a chat?’ But they’ll have it so they can shoot the chat well.
“But they’re only doing it so the cameras catch everything that needs to be caught.”
Marcel was one of the finalists in the 2016 series of the ITV2 hit and was coupled up with Scouser Gabby Allen.
Single Marcel has blasted this year’s stars for not being genuine and insisted his fellow islanders were all in it for love including Gabby, 26, and him.
He said: “Honestly, from my experience, the relationship I built with Gabby in there was a strong relationship. It was a proper, full-on relationship.
“I do feel with this year’s show, they’re kind of holding back a bit because they don’t want to get themselves into that deep relationship. So they’re jumping from different people to different people.
“The cast on my show were more genuine a bit more real. Whereas this crop, I feel like Jack and Dani have been quite real about their relationship.
“But some of the others, they’re trying to play the game a bit more.
“But at the same time it’s a game show. It’s a reality TV show and people win money at the end. It all depends what the people have gone on the show for.”
A Love Island spokesman said: “It is absolutely untrue to suggest that Love Island is fake.
"The opinions they have and the relationships formed are completely within the control of the Islanders themselves.”
