Emmerdale spoilers: Matty Barton viciously assaulted as a terrified Moira tries to bond with her son
But her efforts aren’t appreciated as Matty does a disappearing act again
MOIRA Barton is left reeling in Emmerdale next week when she gets a call saying her son Matty is in hospital recovering from a brutal attack.
The farmer rushes to see him but it’s soon painfully obvious that he doesn’t want her there at all.
She gently questions Matty, asking him if he was attacked for being transgender, but a defensive Matty insists it had nothing to do with that.
Moira, played by Natalie J Robb in the ITV soap, isn’t convinced but desperately tries to connect with her son.
Despite her efforts to bond it takes some time before Matty seems to relent and open up to his mum.
Moira leaves feeling pleased that she seems to have made some headway with Matty but the next day she’s left devastated when the nurse reveals that Matty has discharged himself.
She’s left wondering what she did wrong and if she’s driven her child away again.
Moira was stunned recently when an intruder at Butlers Farm turned out to be Matty, who was last seen in the village in 2012 when he was known as Hannah Barton, Moira’s youngest daughter.
Moira thought Hannah had been living in London since the death of her dad John and was mortified to find out that not only had she been living as a man, but she’d been doing it just a few miles away in Manchester.
Emmerdale fans were horrified last month when Moira cruelly told Matty to leave, saying she couldn’t even recognise her own child any more.
Moira couldn't handle Matty as Matty and even tried to keep him away from baby Isaac because he would "confuse him".
"You look so different," Moira said as she struggled with Matty's emotional reveal.
"I'm living as a man now, as Matty, because that's who I am mum," he told her.
But when Matty revealed that he had been living just over the Pennines in Manchester in order to transition Moira refused to see it from his perspective and kept calling him Hannah instead even when he asked her not to.
"Oh so I've let you down, I've disappointed you, well join the club Hannah," she said again.
But as Matty tried to say hello to his little brother Isaac, Moira sent him away with Faith, devastating
Matty who tried to tell his mother that being trans "wasn't catching".
"I just don't want you confusing him," she said before ordering him out of the house.
"You lied to me, again and again," she said adding: "The Hannah I knew wouldn't have lied, and wouldn't have cheated me out of all these years without telling me why.
"I'm trying really but all I can think is how awful you've been. You missed Holly's funeral, I had to come to you when Adam was on the run. You knew I really needed you and you still stayed away when you were so close.
"You just didn't care so you should go, it's what you want and you only do what you want these days.
"My Hannah was sweet and kind and she would have been there for her family in our year from hell but you abandoned us, you abandoned me.

"Now I can't even recognise my own child anymore so go, it's not like you want to be here."
Will there be a happy reunion for Moira and Matty in the future? It’s not looking likely right now, that’s for sure.
Emmerdale airs weeknights, 7pm, on ITV.
