BONNIE Langford has revealed Carmel Kazemi is going to forever broken after the murder of her son Shakil in EastEnders.
Shakil will be laid to rest tomorrow night in a special episode of the soap that will feature real-life people telling their stories of knife crime.
Actress Bonnie told The Sun Online's Soap Bubble that usually positive Carmel will never be able to go back to how she was after her ordeal and that the old Carmel died with Shakil.
She said: "Carmel will never be the same again, you can't be.
"I think she wants to be positive, she tries every way to make sense. This is half the thing, even if something happens to somebody you've got to try and make sense of it and this seems completely senseless.
"And I think she strives to see the positive in anything but how can you see anything positive about this."
Meeting the special contributors who appear in the episode to share their stories about their children who have been killed by people with knives gave Bonnie an added sense of responsibility to get the storyline right.
She said: "For me it gave me more importance and more weight. I felt more responsible, I felt more determined to get this as accurate and as more emotional and meaningful as possible and as raw and as authentic as possible."
She added: "What is so amazing about this story is that all you normally see of these real people is just after the moment or outside a court or in a press conference.
"With the form of a soap, you can see behind those closed doors when it’s really hurting. I wondered when the story first happened, whether when we did that mini gathering in the Square, it was going to be it.
"But then there’s this huge funeral and the story then continues. Everyone else is getting on with their lives but these people are broken and will always be broken and that’s what you can see so much in the special contributors.
"They don’t walk round in their self pity, they’re just broken."
EastEnders grieving mum Carmel attempts to take her own life but changes her mind
The parents of young victims of knife crime will deliver powerful accounts about losing their loved ones in a special episode of EastEnders on Friday.
George Kinsella, the father of 16-year-old Ben Kinsella, will detail how his son was stabbed 11 times after a night out with friends in 2008.
It will be shown in between scenes from the funeral.
Ben's half-sister Brooke, who played Kelly Taylor in the soap, has become an anti-knife crime campaigner and advised on the long-running storyline, which saw Keegan Baker (Zack Morris) and Shakil (Shaheen Jafargholi) became victims of a brutal knife attack after Keegan stole a bike.
The episode will air on BBC One on Friday July 6 at 9.15pm.

Corrie's Sophie breaks down over brother Jack's diagnosis
Coronation Street's Sophie Webster breaks down as she's told little brother Jack has Sepsis
It's easy to forget that soap actors are actually actors when they appear on reality shows, but there can be no doubt of Brooke Vincent's talents after this week.
The actress' quietly devastating portrayal of Sophie Webster's guilt, rage and helplessness as she comes to terms with her little brother Jack fighting for his life in hospital was captivating.
But the moment she was finally given the diagnosis let her shine on screen and the scene raised huge awareness of how dangerous Sepsis is.

"Now that Mel is settled after overcoming her initial challenges and has secured a job and built a relationship with Jack, it’s time to weave in her first major storyline since her return. Rovers Return's new landlord revealed in Coronation Street
The Barlows have ruled the roost since day dot on Coronation Street but ITV bosses want a new family dynasty to start taking over — the Connors.
And to get them on their way the leader of the clan, Johnny Connor, will become the new landlord of the Rovers Return.
I’m told Johnny will buy the famous soap pub for emotional reasons, as it was the last place he saw son Aidan, played by Shayne Ward, before he killed himself.
A Cobbles source said: “Coronation Street bosses are really trying to big up the Connors as the new family on the block, and want them to be as big as the Barlows.
“There are big plans for them in terms of storylines, and first up is taking over the pub.
“It was the last place he saw Aidan before he went home to kill himself, so when he hears it’s up for grabs he swoops in and takes control.”
