Legendary EastEnders actress June Brown enjoys a cigarette on her doorstep just like alter ego Dot Branning

EASTENDERS actress June Brown has been pictured enjoying a cigarette on her doorstep – just like her alter ego Dot Branning.

The 91-year-old actress has played the chain-smoking character in the BBC soap for more than 30 years.

While enjoying a bit of down time away from Albert Square, June puffed on a cigarette while perched on the step of her London home.

Wearing a patterned skirt and teal-coloured jumper, June checked her mobile phone while smoking her fag before making a call.

It looked like the actress was waiting for a lift as she eventually clambered up to her feet and into a car, with the driver holding the door open for as she made sure she had all her belongings.

Back in April, The Sun exclusively revealed how June had signed a new contract to remain on EastEnders for the foreseeable future.

A telly source said: “BBC bosses know that June has a huge fanbase and she’s a big draw for older viewers.

“She’s a real character and the rest of the cast and crew love her too.

“They want her to be on the show as long as she feels comfortable acting so are delighted that she’s agreed to renew her contract.

“June finds working regularly keeps her feeling young at heart and enjoys the job immensely.”

In a statement,  June said: “I’m delighted that EastEnders have allowed me to keep playing Dot whilst also accommodating me to take on other work opportunities.”

In 2012 June had a six month break from the show to pen her autobiography, but returned the following year.

Earlier this year June appeared on ITV’s 100 Years Younger in 21 Days, which saw her try wacky anti-ageing treatments like splashing her face with wee and letting snails crawl across her.
