Will Young reveals he called The Samaritans when he was due on a West End stage when he felt suicidal

The singer was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder in 2012

WILL Young has said he called The Samaritans just moments before he was due on a West End stage as he felt suicidal.

The Pop Idol winner, who was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder in 2012, opened up in an interview with John Bishop.

He said he made the call for help 60 minutes before he was due to perform in musical Strictly Ballroom in April.

Will, 39, said: “I had a really awful reaction to some treatment and then an hour before press night I was on the phone to the Samaritans.

“I wanted to kill myself. And I’ve never felt that.

“I thought, ‘I wanna kill myself, she’s not gonna rectify it’. But the woman was amazing.”

The singer quit Strictly Come Dancing in 2016 following anxiety attacks.

He added: “I’d never had these suicidal thoughts.

“I’m quite happy to talk about it. I’m not ashamed of it. And I love the fact that I rang the Samaritans.

“The woman I spoke to was brilliant.

“You have to talk!”

Will’s interview airs on Thursday on W at 10pm.

The Sun revealed how the popstar was planning on taking a a course in dry stone walling in a bid to combat stress and anxiety.

He said: “I find doing anything with the hands is very therapeutic."

He was paired on the BBC1 dance show with Karen Clifton but quit with stress after just two performances.

The 2002 Pop Idol winner also revealed last year he may be quitting music altogether.
